Collectormania G-Mex

March 2008

Ian and Cherie recently enjoyed a fantastic weekend in Manchester as Guests at Collectormania G-Mex, which was held on the 8th and 9th of March, 2008.

As you can see from the picture above, we had some pretty morphenomenal visitors to our table during the weekend!

London MCM Expo

October 2007

We weren't expecting to have a table at this October's London MCM Expo but a last minute phone call had us desperately throwing everything we had into a case ready for the show.

The show was a huge success for us. We sold a lot of comics to people who probably would never have heard of us otherwise. Also, Ian did an interview with the Expo's radio station, which really helped to get the word out about Slam Ridley.

If you've never been to the London Expo, here's a taste of what you missed at October's show:

Birmingham International Comics Show

October 2007

#2 of Eleventh Hour launched at Birmingham this year. This show was a huge success and we met a lot of people and sold a lot of comics.

If you missed out on getting to BICS this year, here's a taste of what it was like:

Bristol International Comic Expo

May 2007

Orang Utan Comics officially launched to the public at the Bristol International Comic Expo on Friday May 11th 2007 .   We hosted the official Film Night that kicked off the event, before taking our place as an exhibitor for the rest of the weekend Sadly printing delays meant there were no actual copies of our debut title Eleventh Hour on our stand.  Despite this the team was well received and specially home-printed preview issues completely sold out.  We raised money in aid of the Orangutan Foundation UK, results of which will be announced shortly.

The Film Night was a huge success, with attendees numbering in the hundreds. Special “goodie bags” were given to the first fifty entrants, which included comic books, popcorn and film cells. The films shown were the convention premiere of the new Highlander anime, Search For Vengeance; a rare chance to see award winning Star Wars fan film Revelations on a big screen; off the wall Superman fan film Losing Lois Lane; and the anarchic, feature length send up of "anime music videos", AMV Hell 3, plus various short films from the ever popular Mamtor.

We are now officially confirmed to host next year’s event too and we plan to make it bigger and better.

The Film Night crowd

As well as hosting the official Film Night, we had our own miniature film-festival, which we fondly called the “Fan Film Showcase”, where we had a widescreen television showcasing what we felt was the cream of the fan-film crop.

Films shown throughout the weekend included AMV Hell 3: The Motion Picture, the award winning ninja independent film Checkout: The Movie, the Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan film Forgotten Memories (hailed by Joss Whedon himself), the LEGO shorts, and the world premiere of the behind the scenes footage and trailer for the Firefly fan film Bellflower.

Special thanks go out to everyone who stopped by and supported us by buying a preview copy of Eleventh Hour #1, and to all those that stayed and spoke with us throughout the weekend. We hope to see you all again!
