Eleventh Hour
The History of Eleventh Hour

Born of the frustration of repeatedly having stories accepted for anthologies, only to have them fail to see print as time and again small publishers folded, artists failed to deliver on time or editorial teams changed - always at the eleventh hour - Eleventh Hour was initially conceived as a one off antholgy comic to showcase the writing abilites of Orang Utan Comics Studio founders Peter Rogers and Ian Sharman. However, as with all good stories, the tale of Eleventh Hour has grown in the telling.

Eleventh Hour #1

The first issue of Eleventh Hour debuted at the Bristol International Comics Expo in 2007...or rather, it was supposed to. Sadly, our printers let us down (a theme which was common amongst the publishers at the 2007 show) and instead Eleventh Hour first stepped tentatively into the public spotlight in the form of a hastily produced teaser mini-comic, featuring the first page of each of the four stories. However, the response we had was great, and once the full version was made available via our website, sales were brisk.

Featuring a stunning cover by 2000AD artist, John Charles, a selection of eye wateringly good pin-ups by Tanzanian painter Azim Akberali, and the stories Bloodstain, Brothers in Arms and Purgatory Blues by Peter Rogers, plus a six page intro to Ian Sharman's Young Gods series; #1 certainly contained plenty to keep people entertained. The book received some fantastic reviews and was selling well, so despite our original intentions, Eleventh Hour #1 inevitably led to...

Eleventh Hour #2

Having learned a huge amount producing the first issue of Eleventh Hour, a change of printers for the second issue saw us heading to the Birmngham International Comic Show in 2007 armed with a box full of comics, hot off the press.

The quality of both art and writing was ramped up several notches for the second issue, with Scott Larson (Kong: King of Skull island - AAM/Markosia) and Simon Wyatt (Intergalactic Adventures of Slam Ridley) joining established Eleventh Hour artists Nunu Nobre and Azim Akberali. Cherie Donovan alse joined the writing team, previewing her upcoming series, Project Raven.

Issue 2 was an instant hit, receiving glowing reviews and pretty much selling out within a month of its release.

As we began working on the next issue of Eleventh Hour, and the standard of writing and art continued to improve exponentially, it became very clear to us that in order for us to meet demand for the book, and to reach new audiences, we would have to find a new home for Eleventh Hour.

Thus Eleventh Hour is reborn, as the 80-page tradepaperback, Eleventh Hour Vol 1, published by AAM/Markosia in June 2008.
