As Inker: Contraband (Slave Labor), Spectacular Spider-Man, Marvel Heroes (Panini/Marvel)
How did you get into working on comics: I first attempted to break into comics as an inker around ten years ago, after receiving guidance and training in the mysterious and ancient art of inking from Tim Townsend (X-Men). A combination of youthful arrogance and my geographical location led to a lack of success and it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I rekindled my love for the creation of sequential art. I landed the colouring job on a couple of pin-ups for the Of Bitter Souls tpb from Markosia simply by being in the right place at the right time, which led on to a whole host of further colouring jobs for them. Through that I met Pete Rogers and the rest, as they say, is history.

| Mauro Barbosa - Colourist |
Date of birth: 18-mar-1979
Location: Montevideo, Uruguay
Favourite comics: BattleChasers, Spawn, The Darkness
What you are working on/have worked on for Orang Utan Comics: Alpha Gods colors
What you are working on/have worked on for other publishers: I'm new in the business. I coloured a webcomic chapter from Uggabugga.net, a comic from White Eye Studios, called The Vibrant Ones and I did a lot of flats for a colourist that worked for Image, Bloodrayne, DC.
How did you get into working on comics: The first comic that I read was Spawn. Then, I fell in love with McFarlane and Capullo's drawings. But, in Uruguay the comic market isn't good and I had to leave this passion until now. Just 2 years ago I received Photoshop and I joined a lot of comic forums and artist pages (digitalwebbing, penciljack, deviantart, etc). After that, looking at work from LIQUIDOLOGY!!, Marte García! EraserX! and other really good colorists, my mind exploded. I wanted to be a colorist!! Then, I started to paint linearts that I found on the net, I read color theory, books like The DC Comics Guide to Coloring and Lettering (it's wonderful), and I studied every work of the colorists I like. Colouring comics is an amazing experience.

What you are working on/have worked on for Orang Utan Comics: I've coloured a number of short stories appearing in OUC's 'FTL' anthology and I'm continuing colours on the 'Alpha Gods' comic series.
What you are working on/have worked on for other publishers: 'Relentless' for Markosia (written by Andy Briggs and Steven Horvath, art by Tim Perkins). Currently working on a number of unannounced projects.
How did you get into working on comics: I’ve been a big fan of comics ever since childhood when I received my first ‘Asterix’. The comic ignited my imagination and a passion for telling a story visually, something which led me to complete a degree in Film & Television. However, a chance meeting of OUC’s Ian Sharman at a comic convention and his encouragement led to a shift from my original career choice. I’ve always enjoyed drawing and art, so the idea to take part in the creation of comics was a personal Eureka moment. Continuing work in comics since 2008 has been a challenging but an unquestionably enriching experience that has allowed me to grow creatively and remains my passion. |
